After a while, I haven’t gone to a restaurant in Qatar since I returned from my recent vacation. In an evening my friend and I agreed to try on Thai food in a new restaurant. We went to “Baan Thai Restaurant” where located near Aspire Park (Villagio Mall), easy to find by Waze or Google Map. There were outdoor parking then I didn’t have to worry about where I will park my car.
The warmest welcome from the receptionist greeting us once we opened the door. There was no customer, maybe it was Saturday (the weekend in Qatar is Friday and Saturday, but mostly they are also working on Saturday. I’m such a lucky one 🙂 )
We were impressed with the design of the decoration inside, the waitress handed us a menu. There were many interesting dishes, we looked at the sweet category with greedy eyes “Deep Fried Banana with Ice-Cream”, WOW!!.
We ordered “Tom Kha Kai”(Chicken in coconut soup) and “Spicy Pla Kong Salad” (Spicy prawn salad) together with steamed Thai Jasmine Rice. Don’t be surprised, that we ordered Rice to eat with Salad. It’s normal for Thai people to have most Thai food with rice, especially hot food.
The food was good and followed by the ice-cream. The ice-cream was very delicious, I recommend you to try on it. The combination of hot deep fried banana with vanilla ice-cream is perfect!
Actually, we had planned to go to a coffee shop after this meal but we were really full to move. We called for a check and got some discount for Thai and Qatar Airways cabin crew. luckily we are Thai and my friend is a cabin crew so we got a 30% discount. Big WOW, that’s a lot.
For anyone who loves to try Thai food, you can order “Tom Kha Kai” which is mild and not spicy. You can also request a less spicy.
After missing an opportunity to see the fog ocean due to the misty. We went back to the base camp and agreed to stay one more night at Phu Hin Rong Kla with a little hope that we will see it in the next morning if the rain stopped by midnight.
Next morning I woke up and opened the tent window to see the morning light, my friend screamed with a thrill of joy and pointed out to the scene in front of us. I saw a small fog ocean in the next valley.
We need to rush out to Phu Thap Beok before the fog gone. We took a ride headed to Phu Thap Beok immediately, we know that later the thick mist is coming so we can’t lose this aim.
But why ”Phu Thap Beok”?
That’s because Phu Thap Beok is located at a higher level where can see the fog ocean clearer from the top view and more beautiful.
We arrived there with a tiny chance before the fog gone. The last picture I could shoot wasn’t clear, we were a bit late just a few minutes. Nevertheless, we saw it. I could say that this mission is completed and hopefully, we will be back there again in winter. The fog ocean in winter is different in the rainy season, but there is fog ocean almost every day.
We went back to our base camp and took photos of the nearby fog ocean before we prepared to head back home.
The beauty of nature and the memorable journey will stay not only in the memory card or my blog but also in my own memory for a long time.
Fact: Phu Thap Boek is a 1,768 m high mountain in Phetchabun Province, Thailand near the border with Loei Province. It is in the Lom Kao District.
In the previous post, I mentioned about moving to the new camp base from Thung Salaeng Luang to another nearby national park called “Phu Hin Rong Kla” which located in another mountain range.
The Phu Hin Rong Kla National Park has been developed to be a tourist attractive camp base. This national park is a notable historical former battlefield between the Thai army and communist during 1968 – 1980. All constructions during the fight are preserved for studying nowadays.
The national park located in the boundary of 3 provinces; Phetchabun, Loei and Phitsanulok, with mountain range-and-basin topography, result in low temperature, especially in rainy season and winter. The jungle is still plentiful and diverse of thickly growing trees, undergrowth and wild animals in tropics.
We arrived in the late morning, after complete the registration at the national park office. We chose the layout to camp for a night (at least) and we will go up to Phu Thab Beok national park in the next early morning to see the fog ocean there. The officer informed us that the fog ocean is not usually happened in here, we better move and see from Phu Thab Beok which is located in higher MSL.
But hang on!!, not every day you can expect to see the fog ocean. It depends on the weather and the rain (the ocean fog gesture in rainy season differs in winter). The officer told us that if the rain stopped a few hours before dawn there will have a good chance to see the fog ocean in the morning but if the rain stopped almost sunrise, so there will be only thick mist blinding us to see the fog ocean.
In the late afternoon after having our lunch, we finished the tent. The mist started covering the park slowly and the temperature is getting low. We saw another beautiful scene of nature.
In the evening there was a big group of the cloud ocean floated nearby our camp base, we were much delighted with the beauty of the colourful skyline before the sunset. The day is done, time to rest to be ready for the next mission tomorrow. Cheers!!
Hey there!! I know it’s been a while I haven’t updated my blog. But I did spend my value vacation to find a new experience and explore a new unseen trip for reference and publishing here.
The most recent journey I had is camping in the Thung Salaeng Luang National Park in Petchabun province, Thailand. It sounds pretty adventure, I used to go camping when I was a scout girl (a long time ago) and never camping again ever since.
After the trip planned and my vacation request approved, I headed to my hometown in Bangkok at first to arrange and prepare all necessary stuff for this trip and also met up with my partners. It’s the first thing you need to concern is safety, you mustn’t go to the jungle yourself.
My bags were packed, our provisions prepared then the trip started. We gathered in the early morning because our destination is around 400km from Bangkok. We will need to get there before sunset.
Thung Salaeng Luang National Park is located in Petchabun Province (upper central of Thailand). This National Park is also called Savannah of Thailand. There are plenty of plants, flowers, trees, pines and various wild animals. You can camp in the forest among those wild animals but the national officers also will take care of all securities.
We arrived in the evening a bit before the sunset, in time to shoot some beautiful photos of the stunning nature in front of us. It’s rainy season so you can’t avoid the rain that could pour down at any time. One thing that really surprised me, the LTE signal is very strong, more than 100mps, much faster than in Bangkok. How come? 😉
Actually, our mission is hunting for the fog ocean and wherever we are at the end of the day, we will camp there. That’s pretty adventure and we called it’s a blindfold trip.
It was raining all night and just stopped by the dawn so we could see a lot of mist in the morning but it wasn’t our target. Instead of seeing the fog ocean from the top view but we were in the middle in the fog. We decided to move to another camp base to the higher mountain. The rain was coming soon, we got to pack everything and move before the new rain comes.
We took some beautiful photos that morning before setting off. We drove to another mountain which we thought it has more opportunity of seeing the mist ocean. During driving, we stopped by a lovely coffee shop and of course, we didn’t forget to take photos again.
The next destination is Phu Hin Rung Kla National Park, Petchabun Province.
There is nothing we can take with us when we leave this earth. But there are many good things we can leave behind for the next generations.
The most important person is the person in front of you right now.Take a good care, impress and make a good memory. The good impressive memory will be with them forever as well as the bad memory does. And you will never know when you will meet them again. Then do you best like it is the last time you will see this person in front of you.
The most important time is the being moment, the present you are right now.Because you never know how many days, hour, minute and second left for your life. Living the present, leave the past, do your best in all good things every time like it is the last time of your life.
The most important work is the work you are doing right now. You don’t know when is your last time arrive. Then dedicate all endeavour to every job as a masterpiece like it is the last piece of your life.
These are the things you will leave behind for us.
In the other posts earlier I wrote about Thai cuisine in Qatar but today I will talk about Japanese cuisine. There are many Japanese restaurants in Qatar, one of my favourites is Maison De Sushi. There are 2 branches in Qatar; Center One and Tornado Building, at the Center One branch requires booking (I can guarantee there are super crowded, especially weekend. I made an appointment 3 days in advance), another branch in Tornado building accepts walk-in customer.
The Center One branch has an oriental style decoration as well as the ceramic serving containers in Japanese style. You can have a buffet 130 Qatar Riyal with one hour and a half to finish your meal. I was really full of food in my stomach, no more space to fill in 🙂
Another branch in Tornado building has a modern decoration and the serving container comes with modern lovely Japanese style. The taste and the quality are exactly the same, appreciated that 😀
The food is a fresh cooked, tasty and good in a serving dish. An amazing for ice-cream lover is Vanilla or Green Tea ice-cream with deep fried banana!!! It’s an unbelievable tasty combination.
It’s one of a good place to hang out in Doha, but you should bring friends there because you will give up having all the food alone. Believe me!! 🙂
Set your feet on the ground, stand tall and firm. Nobody can make you stronger than yourself. The experiences and mistakes make you wiser and learn to understand life better. Keep mistakes as a lesson learned but never obstruct you to move on.
